Ignoring the power of SEO
Increasing your SEO will increase your ranking on Google and other search engines. This means more people will be able to find you. The more people who find you, the more chances you have to get them to do business with you. Social media can drastically increase your SEO. Key words, metadata, posting new content and using alt tags are all great ways to increase SEO. (Click here to learn more about social media and SEO)
As I said above, targeted content is important in marketing and having a blog filled with content tailored to your audience will yield results. It will boost your SEO, help you create a community and keep your clients coming back to learn new things regularly.
Tip 1: Make sure you host your blog on your website so that traffic is drawn there.
Tip 2: Respond to comments! People want to feel connected to you. It builds brand loyalty.
Different platforms have different “rules” on hashtags. If you use more than 10 on Instagram you seem desperate. If you use more than 2-3 on Twitter you’ll get less interaction. Over use of hashtags is annoying and often deters interaction, instead of encouraging it. If you aren’t careful you’ll look like you let a 16 year old run your social media instead of looking like a business. Be strategic.
Not making time for social media
I cannot stress this enough – you NEED to be on social media. I’m not kidding. Twitter is one heck of a powerful tool. Facebook is a juggernaut that isn’t slowing down. Instagram is growing faster than any other platform. Periscope is revolutionizing live streaming. LinkedIn is king in B2B marketing. People want to get to know you, your brand, your story. People want to be heard and connected with. People want to get the inside scoop… all of these things can happen on social media. It’s time consuming to update and respond, but I promise it’s worth it. Here are 5 Reasons People Follow You on Social Media.
Skipping networking opportunities
There are events going on locally, regionally and nationally year round. Everything from your local rotary club to a national conference for your business is full of opportunities to meet people and network with them. You never know when some person you met at some event will have the EXACT skill set you or someone you know needs. A killer recommendation to a potential client can be just as powerful as what you can do for them.
BIG MISTAKE. Seriously, BIG MISTAKE. Having a large number of followers can increase your Google Rankings. But ONLY IF THEY ARE QUALITY FOLLOWERS. Google can tell if they are bought and it drops you in the rankings instead of promoting you. Social media sites are also getting wise to this and filtering out fake profiles. Your number of followers or Likes can drop by the thousands over night and people WILL notice. When they do, how do you think that looks? It takes time, energy and effort to grow your following on social media, but it’s worth it to do it organically.
Never offering pricing promotions
One of the main reasons people follow your business on social media is to get discounts and deals. They want something they can’t get elsewhere. Offering a killer deal can cut into your profits, but it will get you amazing exposure and probably bring in a few new clients as well. Running a promotion where if you follow the business social media pages and comment you’ll get a discount code is a great way to get new followers. Many of them may unfollow you after, but not everyone and even those who unfollow you will remember you’re there.
People are seeing your advertising, but what do you want them to do about it? Do you want them to sign up for your newsletter? Maybe you want them to follow you on Twitter? If the people seeing your marketing campaigns don’t know what to do, they’ll just move on after they see it. You’ll have lost that opportunity and you won’t get it back. Make sure you know what you want from each campaign. Offer a call to action button like: Buy now! Donate Here. Sign Up. Get the Newsletter etc.
