- Create lists. Lists help you filter the hundreds of thousands of tweets that go out per day. If you want to see social media tweets, go to your social media list. If you’re looking for information about the fashion world, that’s the list you look up. Simple and VERY helpful.
- Pin a tweet to the top of your profile. Choose something you really want your followers to see, maybe your latest blog post. The tweet will remain at the top of your profile until you unpin it. Simply click on the “more” button below a tweet and select “pin to your profile page.”
- Add a period before the @ symbol. When you respond to someone and say @yourbusiness on you and that person will see the tweet. It doesn’t go out to your followers. Adding a period shares the tweet with everyone.
- Schedule tweets. Ever wonder how people manage to send so many tweets per day? They schedule it. The best time to schedule tweets is between 9am and 3pm Monday through Thursday. Utilize Tweet Deck, Buffer, Hootsuite or something similar.
- Embed tweets. Don’t waste time taking a screen shot anymore! Choose the tweet you are going to share. Once again, select the “more” option. The menu that drops down will include “embed tweet.” A screen will appear with the code you need to copy and paste wherever you want to display the tweet.

- Turn off your Location. If you’re using Twitter for your business, you probably don’t want everyone to know where you are. Go into your settings. Choose security. There will be a “Delete all Locations” option. It will remove your location from previous tweets as well as future ones.
- Know the jargon. Here are a few to get you started: Direct Message = DM. Retweet = RT. Trending. Follower. Hashtag. Saying DM or RT instead of the full text will save you time and characters.
- Use Twitter Analytics. You can access your past month of of Twitter Analytics for free. Go here Twitter Analytics. Choose the “Tweets” option. You can go one step further and click on a tweet to get all the information you could want about how it was engaged with like: clicks, impressions, follows, retweets, favorites and more.
- Send a Promoted Tweet that your followers can’t see. This will send the tweet out only to your chosen targeted audience and not your current followers. When creating your promoted tweet, simply select the “promoted only” option.

- Start using Third Party Tools. A few that I recommend are: TwitPic, Twitter Counter, Manageflitter and SocialOomph. They give you all kinds of different information like when someone unfollows you, inactive users, scheduling tweets, posting photos and much more.
