Seriously, I have a love affair with Twitter. If you run a business, you should have a love affair with Twitter too!
Businesses pay attention.
I have had issues with companies and have gotten no where with phone calls or emails. Once I spent over 8 hours on a phone and got NO WHERE with a company. One tweet got me a response in less than 15 minutes asking for my information. Less than an hour later I was on the phone with the Assistant to the Vice President and they fixed the issue. I had INSTANT access. Companies understand the power that social media has. A few bad tweets never go away. They can’t delete those! So they work hard to solve that bad word of mouth as quickly as they can.
Did you hear about the bomb threat at that local college? You did if you’re on Twitter! People are posting updates about what goes on in front of them, around them, near them or even just things they have heard may be happening. The earthquake in Napa hashtag allowed people to follow updates faster than the local news sources could get out. This is real time in every sense of the word.
Sure, you can Google anything these days. People even say or text things like JFGI meaning Just F@#*in Google It. My case for Twitter first is this: if you have a well built network in your chosen industry these people are doing what you’re doing and looking for similar materials. If you use Twitter to search and even a handful of people have shared an article on what you’re looking for they have saved you reading through 5-10 articles from a Google search. If you’re looking for something outside your industry or for anything in general the use of hashtags also narrows down the content to be sifted through. In essence they have already vetted the content.
Give it some time and you’ll fall madly in love with Twitter too!
